Say it: fon-DOO sah-vwah-YARD (approximate English pronunciation)

Savoyard fondue melts a blend of cheeses with wine into a communal dipping dish. Beaufort, Abondance and Emmental are familiar choices, with garlic or other flavorings added by the kitchen. Pieces of bread pick up the warm cheese. This is a cheese fondue, distinct from chocolate desserts or meat fondues cooked in oil or broth.
