Mont d’Or
A soft cow’s-milk cheese that becomes spoonable when baked in its wooden box.
Say it: mon DOR (approximate English pronunciation)
Mont d’Or comes from the Haut-Doubs in Franche-Comté and is held by a spruce band inside a wooden box. It can be enjoyed unheated or baked until its creamy center becomes spoonable. The warm preparation, often called boîte chaude, may include white wine and is served with potatoes, bread or charcuterie. Check whether a menu offers the cheese itself or the complete baked dish.
